One of the most interesting and customer-centric products that Safaricom (NSE: SCOM) has unveiled recently is the M-PESA Super App, it’s been long overdue.
Looking at the app and its features, DATA comes to mind. Honestly, in the world we are today, we cannot underestimate the power of Data, as usual, it ushers in facts and figures that help with a lot of decision making. For users of the app, the figures displayed – Total spent, daily average, general use, bills and services, family and friends, and withdrawals allow you to make informed financial decisions/judgements.
A more exceptional feature – not common among service providers is the availability of “Offline Mode” and “Mini Apps”. The Offline mode” enables customers to use the M-PESA Super App and complete transactions even without data bundles or when totally offline. With the offline mode, customers can send and receive money and equally make payments.
According to Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa, the M-PESA Super App has been designed to enhance customers’ experience every time they use the service, providing them with a simple, fun, secure and convenient digital solution.
Another interesting feature is the Discover feature where the Mini-Apps are accessed. Through this feature, customers and businesses can complete day-to-day and occasional tasks within the M-PESA Super App including deliveries, ticket booking, shopping, licences applications, insurance and much more from hundreds of businesses, government agencies, utilities and other firms.
The first services available as Mini-Apps include Madaraka SGR ticketing, long-distance bus booking with BuuPass, event tickets on Mtickets, shopping gift vouchers on GiftPesa Vouchers, insurance services on eBima, and gas delivery from Pro-Gas.
Safety for your money is also an element that has well been factored in the new M-PESA Super App. Some of the convenient security features that include fingerprint, face unlock, transaction authentication, detailed usage statements, and an easy-to-use design that’s fun are all available for use. Customers can therefore use fingerprint or face unlock to confirm a transaction in place of their M-PESA PINs.
More unique features available on the app include an M-PESA “Send to Many” option where customers can make multiple transactions to different recipients but only need to enter their PIN or authentication once. We found the option to download a receipt and share it as a PDF after a transaction well thought out.
Customers using the app can equally “Request Money” from a sender who will only need to confirm the transaction by keying their PIN. In addition, for the first time, you can enjoy the option to personalise transactions by attaching a GIF when sending money or by adding descriptions to transaction details. Such descriptions will be useful to provide personal explanations of transactions.
Besides, there are additional options such as Pochi La Biashara and M-PESA Global options. With M-PESA Global, customers can send money to other mobile phone customers around East Africa and other countries directly into bank accounts, Western Union, or link and transact through PayPal.
So far, more than 1.3 million customers have downloaded the M-PESA Super App. All customers who download the M-PESA Super App will get 500 MB of free Safaricom data for the first time.
